It’s 1959 and a trio of First World War veterans have captured the best terrace in the old soldier’s home. Between defending their prime position from the cocoa slurping hoards and avoiding Sister Madeleine’s tyranny of tepid soup and unwanted birthday celebrations. Gustave, Henri and Phillipe plot an expedition to Indochina, via the poplar trees on the hill just beyond the gate.

Rain is incessant. An extinct fish falls from the sky. Lives are changed forever. This is a stunning epic drama spanning four generations and two hemispheres. Parents and children, husbands and wives wrestle with appalling fears and guilt.

From a wet, claustrophobic London the legacy is passed to the winsdwept coast and heart of Australia where a son seeks answers from his estranged father. It is still raining… it seems to be raining everywhere. Will the rain ever stop? Will the past reveal itself and help ease the pain?
